MUNDAL (610) in Mundal division, Rajakumarawanni pattu, Puttalam pattu division, Puttalam District. Does not occur in the Census for 1881. Given as Mundel in that for 1891 ; so also in the A. L. (1907), ans as in Puttalam pattu korale.

Distance and Situation.- 16 miles from Puttalam on the Chilaw road.

Plantations.- Coconut gardens.

Salt.- Retail  boutique.

Dispensary.- A government institution.

Liquor shop, licensed ; also a tavern.

Church.- A Roman Catholic church.

Population.- 1881 : no Census taken. 1891 : 81 houses ; 158 males, 137 females, 295 persons. 1901 : 119 houses ; 275 males, 188 females, 463 persons.

Race.- 1 Burgher ; 74 Low-country Sinhalese ; 4 Kandyans ; 379 Tamils ; 5 Moors.

Religion.- 186 Christians ; 15 Buddhists ; 257 Hindus ; 5 Muhammadans.

Literacy.- 84 males, 2 female literates ; 2 male English literates.

Age.- 0-5 33 males, 42 females ; 5-15 58 males, 36 females ; 15-30 95 males, 57 females ; 30-55 70 males, 44 females ; over 55 19 males.

Occupation.- 153 pasture and agriculture ; 8 traders ; 5 professional ; 24 fishing ; 8 others ; 265 dependents.
