TELI (624) in Teli division, Akkarai pattu north, Kalpitiya division, Puttalam District. Casie Chitty (1834) spells it Taily, and affords the following particulars a s to –
Distance and situation.- “ A considerable village of Akkarapattoo, situated on the right bank of the Calpentyn Gulf, in a grove of coconut trees, about 8 miles north-west from Puttalam by water.” 1 mile from Etalai (q.v)
Inhabitants.- “ The inhabitants are Moors, and there is a small mosque for their use.”
Fishing.- “ There is good fishing in the neighbourhood, which is carried on by erecting enclosures in shallow parts of the gulf.”

Religion.- 16 Christians ; 19 Hindus ; 44 Muhammadans.
Literacy.- 80 males, 3 females.

Occupation.- 8 manufacture ; 96 pasture and agriculture ; 17 traders ; 33 professional ; 6 fishing ; 15 others ; 271 dependents.
