PANAIYADI (621) in Panaiyadi division, Akkarai pattu north, Kalpitiya division, Puttalam District. Given in the Censuses for 1881 and 1891 as Panaiyadi ; and in the A. L. (1907) as Panaiyadi.

Distance and Situation.- 13 ½ miles from Puttalam, on the Akkarai pattu – Kalpitiya road, nesr the 9th milestone.

Plantations.- Coconut and palmyra ; tobacco.

Temple.- A Hindu temple.

Population.- 1881 : 33 houses ; 64 males, 44 females, 108 persons.

1891 : 29  houses ;  59 males, 53 females, 112 persons.

1901 : 29  houses ;  58 males, 44 females, 102 persons.

Race.- 4 Low – country Sinhalese ; 95 Tamils ; 3 Moors.

Religion.- 64 Christians ; 35 Hindus ; 3 Muhammadans.

Literacy.- 23 male and 7 female literates ; 2 male English Literates.

Age.- 0 – 5 5 males, 4 females ; 5 – 15 6 males, 5 females ; 15 – 30 29 males, 23 females ; 30 – 55 16 males, 11 females ; over 55 2 males, 1 females.

Occupation.- 8 manufacture ; 22 pasture and agriculture ; 2 traders ; 1 professional ; 14 fishing ; 10 labourers ; 2 others ; 43 dependents.
